Investigation of Dieticians Employed in General Hosepitals in Seoul


Abstract
An investigation on dieticians employed in 16 General Hospitals in Seoul was carried out from March 20 to April 3, 1973.
The following results were obtained:
1. The average number of patients found to be 213 and the average number of staff including doctors, nurses, workers, etc. was 317.
2. Total number of qualified dieticians was found to be 30 while there were 14 in training.
3. On the average one dietician has charge of 92 patients including on average 16 patients who need special diet therapy.
With hospital staff included the over all average is one dietician to 230 people.
4. The average food costs are 528 Won per day a patient and 225 Won per day for staff members. 5. Work hours for dieticians average 9 hours a day. Only 6 hospitals in Seoul have more than
two dieticians and rotate in shifts.
6. The average standard of Nutrients in 13 hospitals was found to be the following:
Normal diet 2,487 calories including 91 grams of protein, 52 grams of Fats.
Soft diet 1, 953 Calories including 84 grams of Protein, 49 grams of Fats. Liquid diet 1, 207
Calories including 46 grams of protein and 34 grams of Fats.
